Highlights

New Councillor: The parish council is happy to welcome Jackie Holder as our new councillor replacing Gareth Sargeson. More details to follow!

Neighbourhood Plan meeting: A reminder that the Neighbourhood Plan meeting will be held at the Village Hall at 1930 on the 27th of November. More details can be found here: https://bishopmonkton-pc.gov.uk/news/save-the-date-neighbourhood-plan-open-meeting-27th-november-730pm-at-the-village-hall/

Road sweeping: In light of the reduction in service of road sweeping by North Yorkshire Council (NYC), the Parish Council has looked at buying in a service from a commercial supplier as a one-off to remove leaves etc. However, the estimate of time and cost was such that it was deemed too expensive. However, we are now going to lobby NYC on health and safety grounds.

Beck trees crowns: Following on from a letter from a member of the public, the council is going to check with the council’s arborist, (those trees aren’t owned by the Parish Council), as to whether they or we, can remove the lower branches of the beck trees. This will make for a safer environment for children and make it easier for grass cutting.

Road Safety: Another concerned member of the public also wrote to us around providing advice on signs for pedestrians at each end of Moor Road now that we have dark nights and mornings. Unfortunately, we aren’t allowed to create signage on Highway’s property, however, we are intending to run an article around practical steps people can take to keep themselves and their loved ones safe on that dark road.

We welcome and value letters or representation from the public – it holds us to account and ensures we are tackling the issues that people care about. We also welcome attendance at the meetings in person. Our next meeting is on 16th December at the Methodist Church. Hope to see you there.
