Full Council Meeting – 19 November 2024

Here are the highlights of the meeting, the full agenda pack and draft minutes can be found below. Please note, the minutes will be marked ‘draft’ until formally signed off.

Highlights

Playground: Gareth gave an update on the playground. We’re still seeking funding and the intent is once that’s been specified, to involve the village public and children up to year 6 to ensure we’re meeting the needs of those who will be using it.

Reviewing budgets: The council will be reviewing the budgets over the coming month with a view to finalising at our December meeting.

Speeding campaign: Bishop Monkton has been asked to sign up to a campaign to reduce speeding across North Yorkshire villages. The campaign has been signed up by a number of towns and it aims to persuade North Yorkshire police to relook at the policy of mobile speed cameras in favour of fixed and average speed for villages.

Uredale Community Partnership: Dean talked around the Partnership;  It is designed to bring together all the key parts of our community to help improve local services. The Partnership stretches from Masham to Ripley and Dallowgill Moor to Cundall. The meeting talked around evidence of the need for action in a number of areas:

  • Transport
  • Connectivity
  • House Building (focussed on skills and training)
  • Community cohesion events
  • Culture and green space
  • Access to services

In terms of something practical for Bishop Monkton, we’ll be looking for grant funding for the Coronation Walk in conjunction with Ripon and Masham walking and cycling groups.

Avant Homes:  The council discussed the objections to the Avant development and will be finalising our submission and sending on this week. Briefly, it centres around:

  • Flooding issues
  • Footpaths
  • Highways/traffic calming
  • Construction activity plans

Website. The council formally adopted our new website and email systems tonight and they are now fully. The new website follows the .gov.uk schema and presents a much more professional look.  We will maintain the old site until the end of December but we will no longer be updating it.
