Bishop Monkton Neighbourhood Development Plan Traffic Monitoring Programme

Bishop Monkton is launching a long‑term traffic monitoring programme to build solid, objective evidence about how vehicles move in and around the village. This isn’t surveillance — it’s about understanding traffic volumes, patterns and the impact of future development.

Cameras will be placed on the main entry and exit routes (Moor Road, Hungate, Knaresborough Road and Boroughbridge Road). They’ll record things like vehicle types, directions, peak times, not residents or private property. Any identifiable images are tightly controlled and deleted within 60 days.

The aim is simple; give the community reliable data to support the Neighbourhood Development Plan, help identify genuine traffic issues and strengthen discussions with planning and highways authorities. Residents will be able to see anonymous, aggregated results when published.
