VAS Data for February

The Vehicle Activated Sign by the Village Hall (VAS), has been in place for a few months now so we thought we'd share some data that the system collects daily. This chart relate to February. Read on for more...

Published: 13 March 2026

This data has been captured from the Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS), outside the Village Hall and it recorded 40,265 southbound vehicles over the period.

On a typical day around 1,438 vehicles moved into the village from the north, with the quietest day seeing 429 vehicles and the busiest day, 12 February, reaching 3,447.  This indicates noticeable day‑to‑day variation in demand, with occasional peaks that are more than seven times the lowest daily flow.

The data shows that most drivers travel at or around 30 mph, forming a clear peak in the middle of the speed range.  The highest number of vehicles is in the 30 mph band, with substantial numbers also in the 25 mph and 35 mph bands, which together account for the large majority of all traffic.

As speeds rise above 35–40 mph, the number of vehicles falls sharply.  Only comparatively small numbers are recorded at the highest speeds, but given the large overall total, this still represents some instances of higher‑end speeding.  The overall pattern looks like a bell‑shaped curve: most drivers close to 30 mph, with steadily fewer vehicles at both lower and higher speeds.

For the Parish Council, these results indicate that typical driver behaviour is broadly consistent with a 30 mph environment by the Village Hall, but there is a noticeable minority of faster drivers.  The findings will be used to inform discussions about signs, road markings, and any future traffic‑calming measures on this stretch of road.
