Highlights
Neighbourhood Plan: The Clerk will be writing to BMAG to thank them for their very generous support to the NHP and for their contribution to the village over the years. The NHP meetings for those who were interested in helping are being held on Wednesday 28th of January at 1900 and on Friday 30th of January at 1230 both in the Village hall.
Yorkshire Water works in the village: Yorkshire Water at a recent meeting outlined their commitment to improving works in both the village and the nearby treatment plant. The Chair, present at the meeting, has requested full details for us to share.
HGVs passing through the village: There has been recent concern at the number of HGVs seemingly using the village as a cut through, damaging roads and verges, despite a 7.5 tonne restriction starting in Roecliffe and within the village starting at St John’s Road/Hungate. If villagers would like to get in touch with their experiences and evidence, please contact us at clerk@bishopmonkton-pc.gov.uk
Development Works Compliance: Residents have raised concerns about activity at the Church Farm development site, including very early start times, significant tree removal, and mud being left on the road. In response, the Clerk has requested a copy of the Construction Management Plan from the developer to clarify the agreed working practices and conditions.
The Parish Council also intends to establish a small village group to monitor compliance on an ongoing basis and report any issues. Further details on how residents can get involved will be shared shortly.
Outline Planning Application: The Parish Council has been notified of an outline planning application for nine additional homes on land to the side and rear of the Kebbel development. After reviewing the proposal, the Council intends to submit a formal objection.
The concerns centre on the cumulative impact of ongoing development within Bishop Monkton, particularly:
- Surface and foul water capacity – existing systems are already under pressure, and further development risks exacerbating drainage and flooding issues.
- Location outside the designated development boundary – the site falls beyond the area identified for growth in local planning policy.
- Highway infrastructure constraints – increased traffic and limited road capacity raise safety and accessibility concerns.
The Parish Council will continue to monitor the application and keep residents informed as it progresses.
