Abandoned Vehicles
You can report abandoned vehicles to North Yorkshire Council using their Abandoned Vehicles Page
What to Look For:
Signs a vehicle might be abandoned include:
- No registered keeper on the DVLA database
- Untaxed or uninsured
- Stationary for a long time
- Damaged, unroadworthy, or filled with waste
- Missing number plates or burnt out
How to Report:
- Use their online service to describe the vehicle and its location
- The system will direct you to the correct local team based on your area
- Include photos if safe to take
- You can report anonymously, but providing contact info helps with follow-up
If the vehicle poses a danger or is involved in criminal activity, you can also contact North Yorkshire Police via their Anti-Social Behaviour page
They investigate every report and may prosecute offenders, with penalties including fines, vehicle seizure, and even imprisonment. If the fly-tipping is on private land, the landowner is responsible for cleanup.

- Prosecute offenders (unlimited fines + up to 5 years in prison)
If the dumping is on private land, the landowner is responsible for cleanup—but still report it so it can be logged and investigated.
