Full Council Meeting – 17th June 2025
Please find below the draft minutes from the meeting.
Highlights
Children’s Play area: Funding from The National Lottery and elsewhere is looking positive for the revamped play area. Gareth is looking at two tranches of work funded by different bodies to enable completion.
Highways: A small success in that white lining has been re-instated on Hungate/Moor Road, unfortunately, nowhere else in the village and no further movement on pedestrian signs on Moor Road. The Clerk will be visiting Area 6 and will be making representations on our behalf, particularly on street and road signage.
Welcome signs: The welcome signs have been on the council’s radar for a little while, in part due to the Moor Road sign being vandalised at some point. Spurred on though by Gunner Marden’s efforts on Moor Road, the council is looking to reinvigorate the other three signs on Knaresborough Road and Boroughbridge Road. To that end, councillors have taken responsibility for individual signs and are hoping that volunteers will get in touch to help. If you’d like to volunteer to help, Gareth Sargeson is looking after the one out towards Burton Leonard, Andy Hogg for the one closest to the village hall and Steve Oliver for Boroughbridge Road. If you live close to one of them and want to help, Click on the names to send them an email.
Electronic devices: As part of a more sustainable approach to providing agenda packs to the public at our meetings, we have decided to procure two inexpensive tablets to allow members of the public to follow the meeting and be able to read at their own pace. The agenda packs have been approaching 40 pages long for some meetings and this approach will allow us to reduce our ink subscription and paper usage considerably and save the council money.
Email service: The council has also decided to offer a service to residents who would like to access the Agenda, Highlights and Minutes as they become available. Look out for a news article on the website soon explaining how to sign up.
School buses: The council fully agrees with residents who have complained about pupils about to attend Ripon Grammar School no longer being eligible for free school transport whilst those attending Outwood Academy are served by free transport. This, despite the schools being opposite each other. The parish council feels this is unsustainable especially as both schools are served by the same bus and this move will encourage more vehicles onto the roads. Accordingly, we will be writing to NYC to ask them to revise their policy.
Village Charm: A resident has suggested that old style water pumps by the beck might be a nice touch to add to the general charm of the village as well as having practical usage for residents watering flowers, washing off walking boots etc. The council are going to investigate the practicalities a little further and discuss at a future council meeting.
