Highlights

Water pumps: The council has decided to take further the idea around water pumps on the beck, look out for a consultation soon so we can gauge the views of the village.
Mains Lane: Caddick Construction were unfortunately unable to attend tonight for their presentation in relation to development plans for Mains Lane. The PC are looking to get a public meeting date set for some time in the near future.
Parish or Village Council? Civil parish councils were formed in England under the reforming Local Government Act 1894. However, the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 allows parish councils to style themselves slightly differently, such as ‘village council’ for instance and we’re keen to understand if Bishop Monkton would like us to move in that direction. We have views and we’re sure you will too so look out for a chance to add to the debate and shape your council.
Mobile Library: North Yorkshire Library Service has received funding to replace the existing mobile library and is keen to add Bishop Monkton to their regular route to provide books, information and digital support. They are also planning to work with other partners to accompany them offering outreach and specialised services. We’re responding positively to them and will be looking to host them on the bridge where the mobile post office currently visits. As soon as we know more, we’ll let you know.
North Yorkshire Local Plan: We’ve attached our first response below. This is the first stage of consultation and there’ll be more but this represents the parish council’s desire to get ahead and make our views known.
Neighbourhood Plan: A Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led planning document that allows local residents – typically through a parish or town council or a designated neighbourhood forum – to shape the development and growth of their area. Whilst Government has recently removed grant funding for Neighbourhood Plans, they remain very supportive of the construct. We’ve agreed that we’d start the process of developing a Neighbourhood Plan, more on this in a news article soon.
